The picture explains very well what hapened in the book. Because we can see a man and a woman in front of the river, thinking about them past with melancholy and love.
I think this is a good title for this book because ‘two lives’ means that two people who wanted to share them lives, had to broke up with the relationship.
2.Most of the story takes place in Tredonald, Wales. Find information about this coal mining village. With the Industrial Revolution ( 17th and 18th c ) , coal mining, a tiny industry in the 15th century, became a national and international industry. Thus, the 19th century was a century of massive expansion for the coal industry in Wales. But the end of the 20th century brought almost universe closure. Find information about 1984 miners' strike.
The miners’ strike began because the government wanted to closure the mines, and the National Union of Mineworkers did a national strike. More than 165,000 miners were in the strike, it lasted 51 weeks! Finaly the strike ended because the National Union of Mineworkers wanted to return to work.
3.Chapter 1: Two young lives
-" Life was not easy for the Thomas family." Why ? ( 3 lines )
Because his sons Huw and Gareth worked eight hours a day, five days a week in the village coal mine. He losted his other son Richard (killed in a fight). He had a problem with the drunk, and he didn’t work. He also lost his wife when Huw borned.
- Richard Thomas had been killed while fighting in North Africa in 1943. Which war was it ?
World War Two
- In chapter 1 we know that Megan and Huw are good friends. Describe the moment.
Megan and Huw were friends for years. They used to sit together at school, and out of school they spent a lot of time with each other. Their friendship was stronger. But they knew than that, was more than a good friendship.
4. Chapter 2 : The friendship continues
-In this chapter Megan and Huw take a decision about their relationship. Explain it. Why do they take it?
In this chapter Huw asked Megan if she wanted to be his girl, Megan said yes, but they mustn’t told it anyone. Then, they decided to get married in two years if love continues. They were happy to be in love (but in secret).
5. Chapter 3: Romance grows
-"This Saturday was going to be a night to remember." ( page 15 ) Why?
First, because Huw invited Megan to the cinema (a warm place to stay together), after that, he gave her a present: a silver necklace. And finaly because this night part of the tunel of the mine fallen down when Gareth were there.
6. Chapter 4: Death at the mine / Leaving Tredonald
-After the first four chapters, how would you define the relationship between Huw and his brother?
They love each other so much, they work very hard together to overcome the problems. Huw and his brother Gareth wanted to live better. Gareth and Huw helped a lot each other.
7. Chapter 6: A surprise find
-Megan finds the letters Huw had sent her 50 years before, in 1946 and 1947. Imagine Meg's father was still alive and that you are Meg. What would you tell him?
I’d tell him that he didn’t love me, because he did that I live without love lots of years, waiting for her letters. I’d say him that I’m responsable to choose the person I want in my live, and he can’t choose for me. He only can trust in me.
I’d tell him that I’m angry, because he did a bad thing, but I also would tell that I excuse him only because he’s my father.
-In the first letter Meg asks Huw: " Do you think he wanted me to find them when it was to late?". What do you think?
I think that Meg's father wanted that she finds the letters, because he wasn't a bad person, he only wanted the best thing for her daughter.
8. Chapter 7: Time to decide
-Before leaving Tredonald, Huw told Megan : "in a year ...I'll come back here and we'll get married..." ( pag.23 ); but things turned out to be completely different. Why ?
Because they did their lives separately, and Huw didn’t come back for Megan, because he didn’t recived any letter, and he thought that she’ll forget him.
9. Chapter 8: Telling Beth
-Find some information about Cardiff ( 3 lines ) and post a picture

Cardiff is the capital (and the most popular country) of Wales. It was made a city in 1905. The most important monuments and buildings are Millennium Stadium, Pierhead Building, National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Castle, St David's Hall, Llandaff Cathedral and the Wales Millennium Centre.
I'm sure that Cardiff it's a very beautiful city!
10. Chapter 10: Writing back
-Meg is about to get married. In spite of that, she lets Huw visit her and her daughter. Why does she act that way? Do you think she does it for Beth or for herself?
I think she does it for herself, because she need Huw, and she want that Huw visit them. She don't want to be wrong this time, and if she is going to get married she want to be sure she didn't love Huw.
11. Chapter 11 : A new star
-What's Meg's present job?
She went to the collage and become a teacher, but now she works as turist guide: she takes groups o visitors on tours down the mine.
-Why does Huw tell her " you always were a fighter, weren't you?" ? ( pag.48 )
Because she works in the mine, a place with lots of memories...
-Do you think two people can still be in love after 50 years without seeing each other?
I don't think so. If this people are family may be they can still be in love, but they were only 16 years old, and they were only good friends. In 50 years people change a lot, and I think it's very different the love of the teenagers than the love of the elders.
12. Chapter 17 : Time to go
-Imagie the conversation between Paul and Megan the moment she tells him that she is still in love with Huw. Write it down.
Megan: Paul, we've to talk, I love you so much, but Huw is very important for me too...
Paul: Shht! Please, don't continue... I saw it in the dinner, you still love he, and he still love you. But and me? Who love me? I help you in so many things!...
Megan: Yes, you helped me, and I love you a lot! But now we can't get married. I'm very sorry. But in the dinner I remember lots of things, I remember my teenager love!
Paul: (crying) I can't belive it! This is too much for me! You don't get married with me, because you still love Huw!
Megan: (crying) I'll never forget you, because we can be good friends...
Paul: yes, only good friends... But you'll stay here, and I'm going to live in London... It doesn't matter, because you teach me that the distace isn't important.
13. Did you like the book? Why ? What did you learn by reading it
